About me

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MCSP

Abi Womersley

My name is Abi. I’m a chartered physiotherapist with 19 years of experience, specialising in orthopaedics, major trauma, and the care of older people.

After qualifying from the University of Nottingham in 2007, I started my NHS career in Essex - initially as a junior physiotherapist, and then as a senior physiotherapist working in a rehabilitation unit predominantly with older people.

This was followed by a move to Hertfordshire in 2011 to specialise in orthopaedics - I worked in trauma and elective orthopaedics in this role.

I relocated to Sheffield in 2015 where I continued in orthopaedic roles in NHS hospital trusts in Yorkshire, progressing to a clinical specialist and major trauma therapy lead role in 2019.

I established Sheffield Home Physio at the end of 2025 through a desire to fill a gap for high quality specialised rehabilitation at home for orthopaedic patients and older people, and to provide a level of service that is increasingly difficult to achieve within the constraints of an NHS system that is under extreme pressure.

My values:

  • A high level of professionalism and integrity

  • Clear, honest and sensitive communication

  • A compassionate and supportive approach

My aim:

My goal is to help you recover and get back to the activities that are important to you. To achieve this, my practice is built on:

  • Prompt treatment: starting your treatment quickly, whether after surgery or hospital discharge, enables your recovery to begin at the earliest opportunity and prevents further deconditioning.

  • Responsive care: treatment at a frequency that works for you, enabling you to progress without unnecessary delay.

  • Quality care: every treatment plan is a progressive, evidence-based rehabilitation programme for your individual needs and goals.
